Day 30 - Your favorite game of all time

This is it — the final day of the 30-day game challenge.  Thanks to everyone who took time to read, like or reblog them.

My favorite game of all time is (drumroll please):

Mario Kart: Double Dash

Now, I know — there are many other quality games out there which I could choose from in order to top off this games list.  Why not Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?  Why not Portal?  Chrono Trigger?  For god’s sake man, Mario Kart?

Yes.

Mario Kart: Double Dash.  It is my favorite game — but not for the story, the characters or the gameplay (although the game itself is fun).  I love Double Dash because of the memories associated with it.

I was raised very close to my brothers (one older and one younger), and video games have been a large part of our bonding experiences throughout our lives — but Double Dash is the last game we truly played together.

It was the final Christmas we would all be living together at home before my older brother went off on his own and I went to my first year of college, and we received this game as a present from our parents along with a Gamecube to play it on.

We were so excited about it that we played it for days until the holiday break was over getting every character and course and playing it into the ground.  It took less than a week to get everything, and we were still having fun playing race after race against each other.  By the time break was over, my older brother got ready to move into his own place and was gone.

Next — I moved away to college and left my little brother alone at the house with my parents.  He graduated high school a couple years after and moved into his own place as well.

It has been several years since I moved away from home, but for holidays or special family occasions we still all come back to our parents’ house (a different place now).  Every time we are all three together, we pull out the Gamecube and set up Double Dash.

We play through every course, and we still love it.
